Join The American Legion South Bay

Advocating for Veterans Since 1919, the American Legion is the most vital, politically influential veterans service organization in the nation. Founded by an Act of Congress after World War I, The American Legion fiercely advocates for the unique needs of every generation of veterans, service members, and their families who pledge to protect our nation. Today, we are committed to destigmatizing mental health support, offering peer-to-peer resources, and empowering everyone to Be The One in the fight to end veteran suicide.  With more than 1,400 posts across the country and over 400 in the State of California, the American Legion South Bay Post 184 was created in 1920 to serve the needs of veterans living along the coastal areas of The South Bay of Los Angeles.  American Legion Post 184 welcomes all Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guard and Marines.  There is no rank at Post 184; we welcome all ranks and service members to Join and Support our growing membership and The American Legion Mission.  American Legion Dues are $50.00 annually, and our fiscal year runs from June to May. Come join our friendly and vibrant community.  Many opportunities to volunteer, reconnect, relax, and enjoy in our 104 year old facility.

Join The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 184

Patriotism and veterans advocacy are so important to the American Legion Auxiliary that for a century, we’ve been serving, educating, and giving to America’s finest — our military.

We answer the call of Service Not Self. We are the male and female spouses, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion. Some of us are veterans ourselves.

We are the American Legion Auxiliary. And we make a difference. You’ll find us in more than 8,000 local communities in the USA and in foreign countries. Founded in 1919 during the first National Convention of The American Legion, the ALA has grown to be one of the largest veterans support organizations. And we’d love for you to be part of our mission outreach.

Our Auxiliary has been part of Post 184 every year since the early 20th Century, and we have raised money with your generous poppy donations. This money can and will ONLY be used for Veterans, Active Military personnel, and their families. The effort is sponsored by, and we are the ~200-strong members of the American Legion South Bay Auxiliary 184.

For an application form to join the Auxiliary and a list of the eligibility requirements, click the “Membership Application” button below and print the form. You can submit your application and the proof of eligibility and membership fee of $37 to Redondo Beach American Legion Post 184. Join The American Legion Riders Chapter 184

The American Legion Riders Chapter 184 currently has ten members. All our members must be current Legionnaires, Auxiliary, or Sons Of The American Legion members. Chapter 184 of the American Legion Riders (“ALR”) started in October 2021, with the big push to start at our Post coming from our first Director, Brian “Gucci” Toal, who is a Legionnaire. Our current officers are Director Justin Garcia, Vice Director Brian “Gucci” Toal, Treasurer Stuart “Big Stu” Sellars, Secretary Lisa Garcia, Sergeant At Arms JEF “Mongo” Ferguson, and Road Captain Ty Dalmau.

Since our inception, we have won our Area’s “Most Safe Miles Ridden” award every year. This means we haven’t had any accidents or injuries. Additionally, we have been recognized every year at the ALR State Convention. One of the goals of the ALR and our specific chapter is to promote the four pillars of the American Legion, founded in 1919: Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children and Youth. In keeping with these ideals, Chapter 184 has participated in many events that honor veterans. Some of those events included escorting the Mobile Vietnam Veterans Wall and assisting with its assembly. Current Chapter Director Justin Garcia stated, “It felt like I was bringing them home.” Wreaths Across America—We place wreaths for all our fallen service members at National Cemeteries during Christmas. We have participated twice at Riverside National Cemetery and once at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. Flags Across America—We Place Flags at the National Cemeteries during Memorial Day. Some of our members have family at Riverside National Cemetery, so we ride out to Riverside.

We host a Blessing of the Bikes and pig roast to celebrate our Chapter Anniversary. Our Sergeant at Arms, Mongo, is a clergyman, and his mother blesses all the motorcycles that come to support our event. Of course, we roast an entire pig to feed the masses—we have run out each time. With the big American Legion patch on our backs, we are the most mobile and visible representatives of the American Legion. It is important to us to make sure we represent the Legion in the best possible light and get out on the road as often as possible, promoting pride and support of our Veterans and the United States of America.  Press the Riders Membership button to be taken to their Membership page.
