American Legion South Bay Post 184 Members, Guests and Friends;
It’s a beautiful Fall day here at Post 184 while we write this, and it’s been a busy time for American Legion South Bay Post 184.
We just wrapped up our Veterans Day celebration here at The Post. Everyone agrees that it was a special event. The ROTC color guard, the band, the great attendance, the food and potluck donations, the volunteers—it was a great day. We thank everyone for their efforts and helping out, from the members to the public to the Scouts. Thank you all for making it such a special day.
There are a number of projects and meetings going on here at Post 184; we ask that members attend one of the Unit meetings! Check out our shared calendar, which lists each of the meetings and their schedules. We discuss many important issues that you will be interested in. Some of the items going on right now include discussions about refinishing the floors in the main meeting hall. Joe replaced all the lights in the main hall, too, and the SALs are discussing fixing the ceiling. The Riders just donated a significant sum of money to refinish the floors in the main hall, and the SALs pitched in, too. The Auxiliary is also working on replacing the old Gold drapes in the hall. Jesse is in the process of getting an additional donation from a private individual to help out on hall projects. Of course, the scouts recently painted the hall, too. It’s good to see our Post facility getting some love. More to come in 2025 for sure.
Jim and friends have been planting and fixing sprinklers, Rick has been working on Social Media, and Chuck continues to hack away on the website. We hope you all like the new website; it’s not done yet, but it’s coming along nicely. Let us know if you have any ideas for improvement; we appreciate the feedback. The same goes for social media; let us know if you’re getting the communication you need.
The SALs just posted a new Banner on the back fence, and Rick and Chuck are working on a banner for the Auxiliary. It’s good to see the signage go up, so when folks drive into the parking lot, they see ALL of the units represented here: Riders, SALs, Auxiliary, and, of course, The Legion. We have also been using the “Table tents” to inform our members, keeping the flyers fresh about events and information. We are working on replacing the old sign on the front of the property and giving a fresh look to the front of the building. Donations for any of these efforts are always appreciated! Email us at socialmediapost184@gmail.com and let us know how you can donate or help. None of this happens without your support, and we appreciate it.
The SALs ROCK N’ RIBFEST fundraiser is set for December 14th from 12 PM to 3 PM, with LIVE music by The Hollowbody’s from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. It’s open to the public. Bring a friend and enjoy the great Ribs donated by Sean, John, and friends. An essential fundraiser for The SALs, we hope you come by and support the event. Every dollar raised goes to supporting The Post, Veterans needs, Joseph’s Gift, and the needs of our community. Please come and support the SALs fundraiser, it’s an excellent day for a great cause. See you on December 14th, and get ready for a great time!
On the volunteer side, we need help from several people to take on some responsibility for our relationship with the ROTC, our scholarship, Boys and Girls State, and other efforts. We need two or three members to support these efforts; they are a key part of the American Legion Mission and what we do here at Post 184. See Jesse Leal, Chuck Tipton, or Commander Carl and let us know. We need new volunteers! It’s not a lot of time, and it’s rewarding work—thanks in advance for your support.
In closing, it’s been a great year at Post 184. Many things around the Post have been repaired, we had a bunch of very successful events, and the outlook for 2025 is bright. We wish you all the best in 2025, and wish everyone Happy Holidays and good cheer. All the best in 2025 to all.
